Bedard takes full advantage of the genre's atmospheric creepiness and sepia-toned timelessness. O is a contemporary character... there are dark strangers, abandoned mansions, ghostly glowing, chilling coincidences, and otherworldly portals galore.
Bedard writes with grace and wit... It is a mystery and a ghost story and a book about beauty, art, creativity, and taking chances.
There's a rare contemplative richness to Bedard's plot as it wends its way through paranormal threats to ever deepening questions about where poems come from. Dreamy, surprising and full of affection for books and what they contain.
